The Organising Committee of the Winter EYOF 2015 is a keen supporter of Olympic Values and what better way to give back to the community than by supporting a Youth Project whereby young people from a developing area will have the opportunity to participate in a sporting event which compares closely with the ideals of the European Youth Olympic Festival?

The EYOF 2015 Team decided to organise #thecaresquare, developed in collaboration with Monaco-based non-profit organisation Peace and Sport which will be launched on 15 January, just before the start of the event.

Around 2000 pixels will feature on a grid, each one a photo in itself, but when blended together they will reveal a mystery photo. We are asking each EYOF 2015 participant and visitor to help promoting the Olympic Movement and Values around the world - one square costs just 2€. 100% of the funds raised will be donated to supporting the African Great Lakes Friendship Games, in Burundi, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is "a humanist initiative that through sport, promotes a spirit of civic-mindedness".

You can buy your care square as follows from 15 January 2015 onwards:

Haus des Gastes, Schruns town centre
EYOF Competition Venues on competition days from our special #thecaresquare hit squad (watch out for their special #thecaresquare glow sticks) !
Online, directly from button below. For each square purchased, a #thecaresquare wristband and certificate will be given as a souvenir of the event. The photos bought will be revealed on a big screen at the Medals Plaza every evening with the victory ceremonies and as the last photo is bought then the mystery photo will be revealed. Let's together make the world a little bit better through peace and sport

African Friendship Games

The African Great Lakes region and particularly Burundi, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo have witnessed decades of war and ethnic conflict since the three countries gained independence in the 1960s. Hostilities continued throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, leaving whole populations traumatized and community relations severely weakened. Even today, the region suffers from periodic bouts of violence and unrest.

Sport as a Tool for Peace
To help tackle this situation, sport has in recent years been used as a tool for youth education and integration in the area. Embraced by the region's young population and the countries' governments, sport has played a key role in peace efforts. Its positive impact on personal development and the rules it helps establish have become a gateway for education, dialogue and reconciliation among the local communities.

As part of the region's peace process, Peace and Sport supports local authorities and communities with the development of peace-building and peace-promotion programs, most notably the Friendship Games.

This annual event taking place at the border between Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda has an overarching goal: to use sport to rebuild ties between three communities separated by years of combat. The last edition of the Games took place from 15 to 17 August 2014 in Burundi and attracted more than 350 youngsters aged 9-16. Comprising sports competitions and cultural and awareness-raising activities, the Games unite the three countries in a spirit of peace through sport and encourage the youngsters to understand one another, talk, laugh, and share experiences.

Building Sustainable Peace Through Sport
After five editions, the Friendship Games have become a major peace event in the region. Endorsed and supported by the local political and sports authorities, the event attracts growing interest each year.

In 2015, Peace and Sport aims to hold the Games in Rwanda. In order to make this possible, the organization must raise adequate funds and has therefore partnered with the European Youth Olympic Festival 2015 to raise awareness on the project. Do you care? Go to
